I have an Epson Perfection 3170 Photo scanner. It is a fine scanner that has served me well for many years through many different operating systems, Windows as well as Mac OS X.

VueScan is an application that replaces the software that came with your scanner. VueScan is compatible with the Epson Perfection 3170 on Windows x86, Windows x64, Mac OS X and Linux.
The scanner software is no longer supported by Epson for OS X Lion. The only way I can now san is by using the drivers that are built into the OS. I can access the scanner either through System Preferences/Print & Scan, or use Image Capture.
Unfortunately, all the scans are of an extremely poor quality. I can no longer scan fibrant colors or stong blacks, the entire scan is now murky and all colors as well as the blacks and greys are faded.
