Foxtel Go App For Apple Mac

Jan 16, 2020  The official Foxtel Go app is also compatible with Apple TV, PlayStation 3 & 4, and Xbox One. These devices don’t support VPN apps by default, but it’s still possible to connect by leveraging the VPN on a physical or virtual router.

If you’re a Foxtel subscriber and been finding that the Foxtel app for Mac is not working, there’s a simple fix.

Unfortunately the Foxtel Go app for Mac hasn’t been updated in a long time and is only compatible with Macs running OS X 10.6 Lion or 10.7 Mountain Lion.

That means it definitely won’t work on the latest versions of macOS 10.12 Sierra, 10.13 High Sierra, 10.14 Mojave or 10.15 Catalina.

If you’re trying to watch Anytime TV on Foxtel Go using the Mac app, you’re probably seeing nothing but an empty preview screen like this:

Or when trying to watch Live TV, a blank screen with a “This content is currently not available” error message:

In the worst cases, the Foxtel Go app won’t launch at all on Mac.

The good news is that you can bypass the app completely and still watch Foxtel Now on your Mac via a browser instead.

Watching Foxtel Now in a browser offers all the features of the app including Live TV and On Demand in HD, Save Favourite Channels, Parental Control, Pause & Rewind, Trending, Suggested, Kids Content and Closed Captions (Safari browser only).

Just follow these 3 steps to start watching Foxtel Now on your Mac:

  • Using either the Safari or Chrome browser, Download Microsoft Silverlight and run the installer. Silverlight is a Microsoft streaming application which is what Foxtel Go uses to deliver content to Foxtel subscribers.
  • When the install is finished, close your browser. Then reopen the browser and open the Foxtel Login Page and log into your account. You’ll need your Foxtel email address or Foxtel ID username and password. If you’re not sure what they are or have lost them, check the FAQ page.
  • You can now watch Foxtel Play on your Mac without the app.

If you’re using Safari, you may see a prompt asking you if you want to allow Silverlight with Foxtel – click on “Use Every Time”.

If the Silverlight plugin doesn’t work for any reason in Safari or you don’t get prompted to use it, you’ll need to go to the Security Settings in Safari and check the box “Allow Plug-ins” and ensure that Silverlight is definitely allowed in Plug-in Settings.

Note that Silverlight is notoriously buggy on Mac as many Netflix users have found so you may find that it suddenly stops working sometimes, especially after updates to macOS.

In these cases, fully uninstalling Silverlight and reinstalling it usually fixes the problem.

The long-term solution is for Foxtel to update the Foxtel Go App for Mac to stream in HTML5 like Netflix now does which is far more reliable but it doesn’t seem that Foxtel has any plans to do so.

Remember that if all else fails, you can still use Foxtel Go on iPad and iPhone which has been updated for the latest versions of iOS.

We hope this tip has helped you start enjoying AFL footy and other content again on your Mac. If you’re still having problems streaming Foxtel on your Mac, let us know in the comments below.
